Uses of Botox

The bacterium from which Botox is derived is called Clostridium botulinum. It is found in many natural settings like the soil, forests, and lakes. Also, this bacterium can be found in the intestinal tracts of mammals and fish, as well as in the gills and organs of crabs and other shellfish. Generally, such naturally occurring Clostridium botulinum bacteria and spores are harmless.

Medically, Botox is used to treat certain muscular conditions. Cosmetically, it is used to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the muscles. Botox is made from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin that is produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria.

Uses

Eyelid spasms– One of the most common conditions that are treated with the use of Botox procedure is eyelid spasms. When the doctor injects the Botox in the area that needs the treatment, the neurotoxin present in the injection of Botox causes the temporary paralysis of that area. Therefore, it blocks the communication between nerves and the muscles. In this way, the doctors utilize Botox for the treatment of the eyelid spasms.

Chronic migraines– Botox procedure is also useful in the treatment of chronic migraines. According to some doctors, when treating patients for the wrinkles, the patients reported headaches after the treatment. The doctors utilized this treatment for the patients with severe migraine issues and these patients reported some relief after the treatment. For the treatment of the chronic migraines, the doctor provides you with about thirty-one injections in the different areas of head and neck. You can get relief from a migraine for about three months.

Crossed eyes– Crossed eyes are another condition for which Botox treatment is utilized by the doctors. This condition is either caused by birth or it can be caused because of any trauma. This condition is generally treated by the utilization of surgery. But the doctors mostly provide the patient with the Botox therapy to relax the muscles and observe the actual position of the crossed eyes. Many people who don’t want to undergo surgery treatment, utilize the Botox treatment for longer relief from the condition. The crossed eye condition is well known as strabismus.

Excessive underarm sweating– According to several doctors, Botox therapy is also utilized for the treatment of underarm sweating. When treating patients for facial spasms with Botox, doctors found a decrease in the amount of sweat in the underarms and feet. Since then, this therapy is used for controlling excessive underarm sweating.

Severely cold hands– A large number of doctors utilize Botox for the treatment of extremely cold hands. The Botox injection is injected into the individual’s hand so that the muscles of that area are relaxed. This increases the circulation of the blood throughout the body. So, it reduces the extreme coldness of the hands.

Other uses– Some of the other uses of Botox are for diopathic rotational cervical dystonia, which is severe neck and shoulder muscle spasms; post-stroke upper limb spasticity; detrusor (bladder wall muscle) overactivity, which causes urinary incontinence; and overactive bladder.

These are the few uses of the Botox that can be used by different doctors to treat the different health conditions in patients.
